Stosur ends Moscow challenge

Ana fell to a 7-5, 6-4 defeat to world No.19 Samantha Stosur in the quarter-finals of the Kremlin Cup in Moscow.

Ana started strongly, moving into a 3-0 lead in the opening set before the Australian hit back. Stosur, who won the Osaka tournament last week, hit back with two breaks to take the first set.

A break at the beginning of the second set was enough for Stosur to seal her second victory over Ana in Moscow in 12 months, following her three set win here in the semi-finals last year.

"You can't drop a ball short to Ana," said Stosur. "Because she gets around it and hits that big forehand and puts you in lots of trouble.

"You've got to make sure you're starting the points off positively. I think I served very well, which allowed me to get on top of the points in my service games and control the games."

Ana's next and final tournament of the season is the Tournament Of Champions Sofia, which begins on Tuesday 29 October.
