Linz winning streak extended to 12

Ana's winning run in Linz moved to 12 matches as she reached the quarter-finals with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Germany's Andrea Petkovic.

The second seed sought to get in command from the very beginning of the match. However, after squandering a break opportunity in the second game of the match, she was painfully broken herself one game later as she served two double faults.

To her credit, she immediately broke back, and this set the tone for topsy-turvy encounter. Both players earned six break points during the set, but it was Ana who proved to be the more effective player. The pair traded breaks once more in the eighth and ninth games, before the 24-year-old eventually broke a third time to claim the first set.

Also in the second set, the 2008 and 2010 Linz champion kept piling pressure on the Petkovic second delivery and forced the German into making a handful of double faults, after Ana had ruthlessly punished some weaker serves earlier.

Ana raced into a 3-1 lead, also thanks to a flurry of crushing groundstrokes, but similarly to the first set, she could not maintain her advantage.

Petkovic tied at 3-3, but as Ana started cutting out the unforced errors, there was to be no stopping her. She reeled off three games to wrap up victory in 81 minutes.

Ana marked her win with a big hug at the net for her friend and former doubles partner, who is on her way back from several injury issues that kept her away from the tennis courts for most of the year.

Ana will taken on Belgian qualifier Kirsten Flipkens in Friday's quarter-finals. The match is scheduled as the third of the day on Centre Court, with play beginning at 2pm local time (8am Eastern Time). Therefore Ana is expected to take to the court sometime after 5.30pm local time (11.30am Eastern Time).
