Fluent Ana storms into quarters

Ana produced one of the finest volleying displays of her career as she dismantled American world No.61 Lauren Davis in the third round of the AEGON Classic in Birmingham.

Although her forays to the net were infrequent, the 26-year-old displayed sublime touch as she dominated from both the net and the baseline. She sealed victory in just 69 minutes.

Just as she had done against Mona Barthel in the previous round, Ana began the match slowly. She fell 0-40 behind in her opening service game but saved all three break points before holding and breaking Davis in the second game.

It quickly became clear that Davis was unable to trouble Ana - the American was comfortably overpowered by Ana's weight of shot and some wicked angles.

The second set was marginally more competitive, as Davis had several points for a 2-1 lead, but Ana showed her supreme focus and ruthlessness by refusing to give any free points. She eventually broke and won the remaining games with ease to set up a last eight meeting with Klara Koukalova of the Czech Republic.

"I really enjoy playing out here," said Ana in her on-court interview. "The weather is beautiful today."

"She's a player who gets very low and picks up the ball well, so I knew it wouldn't be easy."

"I played her on a hard court recently and tried to take some things from that match. I'm happy with this victory."
