Ana will face world No.24 Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic in the third round of the French Open in Paris. The clash on Saturday will be the seventh meeting between the pair since they turned professional.
Ana won the first two encounters, but thereafter she has lost four times in a row to the left-handed Czech. However, Ana was victorious in their only previous meeting on clay, when the former world No.1 beat Safarova 6-1, 6-2 en route to capturing her maiden title here at Roland Garros six years ago.
Despite having a career-high of No.17 in the rankings, which she achieved in 2012, Safarova hasn't gotten past the third round of a Grand Slam tournament in the past seven years. Her last fourth round appearance dates back to 2007, when she reached the fourth round of the French Open. Since then, she has endured a 0-7 record in third rounds at Grand Slam events.
The Czech is currently topping the ‘most aces’ ranking at this year’s French Open, having already served 13 aces during her opening two matches against world No.143 Mandy Minella and world No.48 Casey Dellacqua.
“It's going to be a tough matchup,” said Ana. “She's been playing really well lately. I think the last few times I actually lost, so it will be go to get revenge.”
“I look forward to that challenge. I have tomorrow to get ready for that, and hopefully can it be a good one.”
