Ana reached the second round of the Qatar Total Open in Doha when her opponent, Daniela Hantuchova, retired hurt. Ana was leading 7-5, 1-0 when the Slovakian withdrew due to injury.
Ana struggled early on and trailed 5-3, but her game began to click at just the right moment, and she turned the match around.
"I thought the first set was very competitive," said Ana.
"She started really well, and I managed to get back into the set and break her back. I played some really good tennis towards the end of that first set and then in the second.
"It was really unfortunate she didn't feel good in the second."
Ana will take on world No.34 Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic on Wednesday.
The match is due to start on Court 2 sometime after 5pm local time (3pm Central European Time; 9am Eastern Time).
