Ana falls to No.18

Ana has dropped two places to No.18 in the latest Official Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Rankings. Her doubles ranking has gone up seven places to No.88 while she has also climbed one place to No.19 in the Porsche Race.

Ana’s fall is largely due to 39 points being removed from her total. She earned 87 by reaching the quarter-finals of the Nasdaq-100 Open last year, but lost one round earlier the Miami event last week so was awarded only 48. Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Elena Likhovtseva overtake the Serbian.

The 18-year-old’s doubles ranking rise is thanks to a quarter-final showing in Miami alongside Sania Mirza, who herself climbs to No.45.

The only significant change elsewhere in the singles rankings sees Nasdaq-100 Open winner Svetlana Kuznetsova move from No.14 to No.10. She re-enters the top 10 for the first time since August 2005.

Ana’s next event is the Fed Cup, held in Bulgaria in the week beginning 17 April. She will not play in another ranking tournament until the J&S Cup in Warsaw, which begins on 1 May. The slight alteration to the calendar complicates matters but effectively, the Serbian doesn’t have any points to defend until then.
