Ana set up an intriguing Cincinnati semi-final with current Road To Singapore leader Maria Sharapova. The 26-year-old defeated world No.39 Elina Svitolina 6-2, 6-3 at the Western & Southern Open.
It was a dominant display by Ana, who served intelligently and overwhelmed the Ukrainian with her controlled aggression. She now leads the 19-year-old 5-0 in their head-to-head series, with three wins coming this year.
Svitolina had won her last eight matches, including the Baku title last week, but she appeared to run out of steam and Ana was never really troubled. She clinched victory in just under an hour.
The win means that Ana will rise to at least No.9 in the rankings on Monday. More importantly perhaps, it means that she will be seeded among the top eight at the US Open, following the withdrawal of current world No.3 Na Li.
In the Cincinnati last four Ana will take on Maria Sharapova, against whom she has a 3-8 record. The pair have met twice this year, with each player winning one match.
The match is scheduled to begin at 7pm local time (1am Sunday Central European Time. Click here for live point-by-point scoring from the Linder Family Tennis Center in Ohio.
