Ana and Sears part ways

Ana and Nigel Sears’ coaching agreement has come to an end by mutual agreement. Briton Sears was appointed as coach in July 2011 on a two-year contract, which the pair have chosen not to renew.

The highlight of Sears’ reign was when Ana won the Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions in Bali November 2012, their only title together. In Grand Slam competition Sears helped Ana reach the last eight of the US Open last year, her first Grand Slam quarter-final appearance since 2008.

Ana was ranked 18th when she began working with Sears and she finished 2012 ranked 12th, her highest ranking since 2009 and her highest career-end ranking since 2008. Ana currently stands at 12th in the rankings but is projected to fall to 17th or 18th on Monday following her second round loss at Wimbledon.

"I’d like to thank Nigel for his dedication and professionalism. I enjoyed working with him," said Ana.

Ana’s win-loss record under Sears was 76-41.
